3. Short description (including brief history):
The media laboratory is a space for experimental media work (mostly "new media", i.e. computer- and internet-based), meetings and discussions on media issues, and connections of progressive theory and practices. In addition to occasional workshops (for example, on pgp encryption and web streaming), the media lab hosts an online library and a monthly Linux Cafe, and it produces a monthly radio programme on the local free radio FSK.
4. Type of group: (e.g. assembly of several groups, trade union, magazine/alter media, social centre, militant research group, immigrant support group, queer action group etc.):
Coalition of nadir.org (alternative/left-wing web-platform/ISP), Indymedia (network for independent and uncommercial news reports), gruppefünf (theory production on precarity and related issues), and individual media-makers. The media lab is a semi-public space.

Media, communication, free software, surveillance/privacy, intellectual property rights

Workshops/information/training/advice, meetings and discussion, tactical media interventions, media/technical support for political/activist projects

Workshops, online library, Linux Cafe, radio programme, media/technical support for Euromayday and for Radio FSK (local free adio)

No involvement with a regular/ongoing struggle. Occasional support for students struggles, campaigns against the evictions of trailer parks, etc.

Regular collaboration with Indymedia and Radio FSK; irregular/occasional cooperation with Euromayday, Buko (german network of activist groups), G8 mobilization.
10. Brief explanation of involvement in the MayDay mobilizations:
Technical support for the website http://hamburg.euromayday.org and for the wiki workspace. Support of the radio reporting of 1st May.

Occasional discussions on media theory; radio programmes on the issues mentioned above; programming...
