|answer1= Sydney/Melbourne
|answer2= Sydney/Melbourne (Australia)
|answer3= Precarity has not emerged as a lever of militant action and research in Australia, despite the introduction in 2005 of new workplace legislation mandating ever more insecure conditions of labour and life. The reasons for this lack of militant activity are complex and span across the cultural and economic spheres.
Nonetheless, there are some intermittent meetings and patterns of association (they are not yet and perhaps will never be groups) around issues of changing experiences of work and their connection to wider circumstances of migration, war, etc. In general there is a wide divide between civil society activists and anti-neoliberal activists in the Australian context. Perhaps it is because the former gained precedence in the anti-war movements of 2003 that there was very little attempt to articulate widespread social movements to anti-capitalist struggles surrounding precarity. The current situation of militant action and research is extremely fractured and diffuse. With the lack of an overarching concept such as precarity to motivate organisation, the challenge is to invent new platforms for collective action (learning from but not imitating initiatives in other global geographical regions).
|answer4= Various loosely connected initiatives and meetings (see websites below).
- Issues addressed (e.g. migration, call centres, care, universities etc.):
|answer5= Changing work practices, migration and detention centres, universities, Cronulla riots of Dec. 2005, local race politics in context of global war.
|answer6= There is an array of practices. Direct action has been on the wane since the blow-out of anti-war protests in 2003 (under illusion of swelling ranks).
|answer7= Autonomous university initiatives in Sydney and Melbourne. Information for migrants and cultural workers on implications of industrial relations legislation. Art exhibitions. Squatting and social centres (very short lived) linked with housing activism (there are very high real estate prices in Australian cities).
|answer8=
|answer9= European Precarity Webring, uninomade, various SE Asian groups such as Focus on the Global South.
|answer10= Gaze from a distance. MayDay in Australia is still a trade union/political party event. It has not been reappropriated.
|answer11= Fibreculture issue on precarious labour:
