1. Group name (in original language):
rete nazionale ricercatori precari – nodo di Bologna. CTRL-Shift
2. City/geographical area:
Bologna (Emilia Romagna)
3. Short description (including brief history):
The movement of researchers of the University of Bologna started on March 4 2003, when many Italians universities were occupied. The rnrp-Bologna node was born on this occasion. From its very beginning the researchers movement in Bologna had 2 deeply interconnected aims:

On one side it struggled in order to obtain from the Bologna university administration those rights and benefits that are denied to precarious researchers. On the other side it aimed to connect itself to the broader context of social precariousness. The connections with other precarious workers could help to fight against the recent transformations in the labour market leading to the spreading of precariousness, transformations that afflicted particularly young generations. In order to fight against precariousness rnrp-bo has promoted demonstrations as well as cultural and informative events aimed to render the citizens more sensitive to the problems of precarious work/life.
At the same time, the researchers/teachers of Bologna university found it necessary to deeply reflect on the social role played by education in high-schools and university and, more generally, on the social role of access to knowledge. Various informative events have been organized in order to promote a different way to conceive of university education, knowledge transmission and research. These events were aimed to highlight that education should not simply intended as the acquisition of competences useful for the labour market, but should help to acquire critical competences; that research should not be market- and funding-oriented but should be socially useful. Recently rnrp-bo has developed a political document (intent paper) with the aim to aim to build a network composed by all components of the university world – students, precarious and stable researchers both from university and from the national research council (CNR), teachers, precarious and stable professors, administrative personal etc. The name of this Bologna network is CTRL-shift (remove the control). At present this document is being discussed with students who took part in the recent university movement (demonstrations, university occupations etc.). It moves from the awareness that a critical analysis on public research and public university can start only if all university components are involved. The present activities in which CTRL-Shift is presently involved are presented below.
